Lucia's First Moments

Moments afterwards

Lucia arrived at 4:14am after an hour of pushing. I've heard women say that "labour" is called so because it really is hard work, but I don't think I ever understood that they meant "really f-ing painful" work...

Matt loves telling people about me barking commands at the doctor and making him support my leg, while the midwife delivered the baby. He also tells me I said that I couldn't do this anymore moments before it was all over.

What I remember is being in a state and the midwife saying "Look! It's a baby!" and putting her on my stomach.  It took a while before we even made sure which flavour she was. :-)

Anyway, as anyone who has ever held their newborn baby in their arms can tell you, no words can describe it, so I won't try.  Let's just say it's the most amazing experience, and that having a baby with someone you love is pretty incredible.

After Baby was dressed and checked and all the rest, Mummy and Daddy were given tea and toast. Nothing has ever tasted so good, and no shower ever felt better either!

Shortly we moved upstairs to the ante-natal ward. Usually people stay in hospital for a wee while, but Lucia has picked a very busy day and we were given a bed in a 4-bed room. The staff were also very distracted so we decided to go home that afternoon.

With lots of help from family and friends who have been cooking and cleaning angels, Lucia and Mummy have been able to spend a good deal of quality time together, recuperating from the birth, learning how to breastfeed (not there yet!), and getting to know each other.
